What is a paralegal?

Paralegals are much like lawyers, as they have been licensed by the Law Society of Ontario to provide legal services. Paralegals are also recognized as officers of the court. However, Paralegals are limited in the areas of law they can provide services for. The main advantage of Paralegals to the public is that Paralegals are just as competent as lawyers in the areas they practice, but

Paralegals fees are as low as 5 to 20 times lower than that of the fees of lawyers.

Paralegals fees range from $100/hr to $200/hr an hour, while lawyers fees range from $500/hr to $2,500/hr.

Paralegals are limited to the area of practice for:

· Any matter before a Small Claims Court,

· Any matter heard before a Provincial Offences Court,

· Any summary conviction matter with a maximum penalty of six months in jail before the Ontario Court of Justice – Criminal,

· Any matter before a local, provincial, or federal administrative board, tribunal or commission, except immigration applications.

Paralegals are NOT ALLOWED TO OFFER ANY FAMILY LAW ADVICE!

The Law Society of Ontario has offered a new certification to paralegals for family law,

but this will not come into affect until mid 2025 and has restrictions.

For more information check out the LSO FLSP page.

Please check our practice areas menu to see where we offer our services in!

services we provide

Full Legal Services

We offer a complete client focused service in whichever legal forum you choose or are required to use.

For example, if you wish to pursue the recovery of a debt. We will

  • review your evidence,
  • prepare, file, and serve the plaintiff's claim,
  • represent you during the entire legal process, ensuring you understand the entire process and most importantly you make all the decisions.

We offer full legal services for the following matters:

  • Civil disputes before the Small Claims Court matters

  • Human Rights disputes before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario  or the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal

  • Workers compensation disputes before the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board or the Workplace Safety Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Including Provincial Offences charges of such as material change of circumstances before Ontario's Provincial Offences Court and Ontario's Court of Justice

  • Provincial Offences matters, including Highway Traffic Act & No Insurance offences before the Provincial Offences Court and the Ontario Court of Justice

  • Criminal matters before the Ontario Court of Justice

Unbundled Services

As an alternative to full legal services we also offer unbundled services. This is where we will assist you at any stage(s) during the legal process, in whatever legal forum you maybe in.

This option is for those that are comfortable and capable with performing part of the legal process.

To learn more of the unbundled legal services we offer, check out our services page.

Commissioning & Notarizing of Documents

Often people will just need a document commissioned, which is a sworn statement made to a commissioner of oaths. As a paralegal we are able to offer this service.

Often people require documents to be notarized, which is a have certified copy of an original document. As Notaries we also offer this service.

Lien & Title Searches

When individuals lend money to others sometimes they offer property as collateral. We can verify the property as lien free and to register a lien against it on your behalf.

Corporate Business Registration

To register a business as a Ontario limited liability or a corporation can be quit overwhelming. This is another service we offer to people.
